About HSC Medical Billing & Consulting
HSC Medical Billing & Consulting, LLC is a full-service medical billing company that also offers a full range of consulting services for your practice. As a subsidiary of Harding, Shymanski & Company, P.S.C., we are in a unique position to provide financial management expertise through the firm’s Health Care team.
In 2008, HSC Medical Billing & Consulting, LLC began with five staff members and has since grown to a team of more than 50, including four Certified Professional Coders (CPCs) with experience coding for over 25 different specialties, including Rural Health Clinics. All CPCs are certified in ICD-10 diagnosis coding. We are large enough to provide quality medical billing and small enough to tailor a solution for your practice.
Karen Schnell, CPC
CEO
Karen Schnell is the CEO of HSC Medical Billing & Consulting, LLC. She has over 30 years of experience working in healthcare coding and billing. Her experience includes performance of medical chart audits, paper and electronic claims submission, managed care contracting, oversight of accounts receivable follow-up, check-in and check-out functions, manual and electronic payment posting, patient accounts follow-up, coding, and entry of various specialties.
Karen became certified in the NextGen Practice Management System in 2004 where she played an integral part in the establishment of the NextGen Practice Management and Electronic Medical Records System for Welborn Clinic. She is a past member of the Welborn Clinic Compliance Committee, Managed Care Committee, HIPAA Committee, and Information Management Committee.
Karen obtained her certification in coding in 1999 through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), where she remains certified and a member still today. She is a member of the Indiana Part B Provider Outreach and Education Advisory Group (POE AG) with Wisconsin Physicians Service Medicare.

CHART AUDITS & CONSULTING SERVICES: We offer à la carte services independent of medical billing. We’re happy to perform chart audits or to consult on a variety of issues such as billing process reviews or accounts receivable collections on an as-needed basis.
FLEXIBILITY & EXPERTISE WITH MULTIPLE BILLING SYSTEMS: We accommodate your needs and work with your EHR and practice management system. If you prefer, we can use our in-house system.
PROACTIVE APPROACH: In preparation for the implementation of ICD-10, we created custom crosswalks and conducted training sessions for our clients.
TEACH APPROACH: When you become our client, you have a team of specialists rather than being assigned to one individual biller. Your billing team has the expertise needed for every part of the medical billing cycle.
